Origin Regions / Wilayah Asal

Three Terroirs.
One Island Nation.

Indonesia's vast archipelago produces vanilla with distinctly different flavour profiles. We source from three regions, each with its own microclimate, soil, and character.

Kepulauan Indonesia yang luas menghasilkan vanili dengan profil rasa yang sangat berbeda. Kami bersumber dari tiga wilayah, masing-masing dengan iklim mikro, tanah, dan karakter tersendiri.

The Science of Terroir / Ilmu Terroir

Why Origin Matters
More Than Grade

The concept of terroir — the complete natural environment in which a crop is produced — is as central to vanilla as it is to wine or coffee. Soil mineral content, rainfall patterns, elevation, temperature fluctuation, and traditional curing methods all contribute to a vanilla's final character.

Indonesian vanilla is distinct from Madagascan or Tahitian vanilla not just in flavour, but in vanillin concentration, moisture retention, and aroma longevity. And within Indonesia itself, our three sourcing regions produce beans with markedly different profiles.

Rainfall & Humidity Affects moisture retention and glucovanillin conversion during curing
Temperature Variance Day-night temperature swings influence vanillin precursor development
Soil Composition Volcanic soils rich in minerals produce more complex aromatic compounds
Forest Canopy Shade growing under tropical forest slows ripening, concentrating flavour

Halmahera Island, North Maluku / Pulau Halmahera, Maluku Utara

Why North Maluku

North Maluku is where vanilla first arrived in Indonesia. The region's active volcanic soil deposits rich minerals directly into the root systems of vanilla vines. The combination of volcanic soil, sea breeze, and equatorial humidity creates the ideal conditions for producing the highest-vanillin beans in our portfolio.

Maluku Utara adalah tempat vanili pertama kali tiba di Indonesia. Tanah vulkanik aktif di wilayah ini menyimpan mineral kaya langsung ke sistem akar tanaman vanili.

Lush tropical landscape in Central Sulawesi where vanilla vines grow under forest canopy — Lanskap tropis Sulawesi Tengah tempat vanili tumbuh di bawah kanopi hutan
Central Sulawesi highlands / Dataran tinggi Sulawesi Tengah

Why Central Sulawesi

Sulawesi's highland forests provide the perfect shadehouse for vanilla cultivation. The cooler mountain temperatures slow the curing process, allowing deeper flavour development. Sulawesi vanilla is prized by master chocolatiers and artisan distillers for its bold, smoky depth that holds up under heat processing.

Hutan dataran tinggi Sulawesi menyediakan shadehouse sempurna untuk budidaya vanili. Suhu pegunungan yang lebih sejuk memperlambat proses pematangan, memungkinkan pengembangan rasa yang lebih dalam.

Farmers working in lush tropical fields in Papua Indonesia surrounded by pristine rainforest — Petani bekerja di ladang tropis Papua Indonesia dikelilingi hutan hujan murni
Papua's pristine forest farms / Kebun hutan murni Papua

Why Papua

Papua's vanilla grows in some of the world's last pristine rainforest ecosystems. Zero industrial agriculture. Zero pesticide history. The high rainfall, rich biomass, and complex soil microbiome produce beans with a distinctly floral, delicate quality unlike any other Indonesian origin. Production is intentionally limited to protect the ecosystem.

Vanili Papua tumbuh di beberapa ekosistem hutan hujan murni terakhir di dunia. Nol pertanian industri. Nol riwayat pestisida.
